Health

Caring for large zoo animals such as gorillas requires a cooperative team of veterinarians, animal care staff, nutritionists, and researchers. Research provides valuable information about how best to care for gorillas in the captive environment.

The Gorilla Health Project is a collaborative effort involving a wide range of personnel within AZA as well as outside collaborators. The ultimate aim of the Gorilla Health Project is to improve the health and welfare of captive gorillas by better understading disease processes within the species.
